In a speech on the Senate floor, Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky spoke out against the current state of government spending. He criticized the GOP leadership for declaring the recent spending bill a victory, despite adding over a trillion dollars in new deficit spending and increasing the overall national debt to 31 trillion dollars.
He also criticized the rushed and secretive process by which the 1.7 trillion dollar Omnibus spending package was passed, noting that it was released at 1:30 in the morning on the day it was to be voted on and increases spending by 10% compared to the previous year. He provided examples of wasteful government spending, including injecting Beagles with cocaine and studying male parrots’ mating habits. He called on Congress to take a responsible approach to federal budgeting and prioritize the needs of the American people.
